Just west of the Illinois/Iowa border in Davenport is where I found my lunch today. Normally I just stop at the World's Largest Truck Stop but this time I wanted to try something new. As the name suggests it was pure middle Americana in aesthetic and menu.
With every souvenir you never wanted but suddenly need.
The dining room was a place where families gathered four generations deep. A ring of silver haired men occupied the prime table like knights of old. The servers were in overalls and none of the cutlery matched but it was perfectly rolled. Despite the antique decorations suggesting otherwise there wasn't a speck of dust on any surface.
The food itself was exactly what I wanted - homey and delicious. I had the beer cheese fondue (with soft pretzel sticks) and the roasted cauliflower. The fondue had deep flavor. The pretzel was also good but was a mere delivery vehicle for the cheese in comparison. The treatment of the veggies made me want to explore their salad options.
I might have to change my state line tradition restaurant now.
