There is a gas station three blocks away from my house. It is the most expensive gas station in a five mile radius with the worst quality shelf stocked candy bars I've ever had.
But they have the best tacos in Crystal Lake.
Or at least the truck parks there on slow and gig free nights.
This summer it's a goal of mine to get a bit more aware about food truck culture. I've had some great food served to me out of the back of the van and this truck in particular is one of the best.
If you're looking for flavor and authenticity it's there. Double corn tortillas packed heartily with meat sitting in its own flavor all day before giving it extra love from the grill per order.
It's simple and to the point. Taco or Burrito. This is the only place in the world I feel comfortable ordering completely in Spanish instead of English because I only need eight words to complete the transaction. Every time I see the bright red box I'm tempted.
Last night the sky was falling fiercely and as we pulled into the gas station for a soda run there it was - The Taco Truck. With a pocket full of cash and a frustration at the rapidly accumulating snow, I ordered tacos and thought of vacation.
Cash Only.
Five Stars.
