Pizza is not only huge nationally but it's basically the foundation to my current relationship. Customizable pizzas make both of our food preferences very happy. We've tried every frozen pie and will only return to two. Playing coupons to get free pizzas out of franchise chains is a regular game for us.
So when I tell you that Tomato Bar is now one of our regular ‘fuckit lets go eat’ locations that means something. We have never gone OUT for pizza before*. (*unless it was Pequods in Chicago, IL)
It was always something we brought back home, had delivered, squirreled away in the fridge for breakfast. We struggle to not eat until we're sick by reminding ourselves that we CAN have it for breakfast and it's not a mirage that will disappear as soon as we walk out of the door.
And it reheats in the oven perfectly.
Walking in, the place is sized for pizza parties. Huge booths that can easily fit a family of six and long galley tables. The clearance between each table is wider than usual, giving the servers that extra elbow room to hoist pies past impatient hands and land squarely in the middle of the crowd.
The theme concept is “aliens” and I love them for it. I can't wait for all the shelves to get covered in on brand trinkets over time.
On to drinks. I did notice that while they served beer, their crafted cocktails were all non alcoholic. They had some really delicious sounding NA and CBD drinks, but other than that it was Pizza and Beer. I can dig on the enforcement of aesthetics.
The menu is about as straight forward as could be. Apps that take pizza ingredients into a reimagined state with one step, and if you're carb conscious you can put your pizza toppings on a salad instead I guess.
We don't, but you can.
Dylan usually sticks with cheese. I can't even judge, it's a great way to determine if the pizza is actually good or not. I change up what I get every time but so far the toppings have all been fresh and flavorful. We've gone so many times at this point I'm pretty sure we're getting recognized. It's bad for my anonymous vibes but so good for both my wallet and appetite.
It pulls perfect every time.
The crust is what we really show up for. Light with the perfect amount of crisp and chew. Make sure to get extra sauce on the side to dip the crust in, it’s basically a free breadstick. I’m sure the breadsticks are also good there, but we’ve never made it further than the doughnuts on the list. Rings of pizza dough perfectly baked, it’s a wonderful treat.
The only thing they're missing is something sweet to cap off my tastebuds. Like just put cinnamon and sugar on those dough rings I'd buy them at an inflated price please.
